Scrape up any solids with a blunt knife or spoon and blot up liquids with clean, white cloth or tissues

Sponge with detergent solution – either with a teaspoon of washing powder dissolved in ½ pint lukewarm water or a solution of carpet shampoo diluted as per the manufacturer’s instructions.  Blot the carpet dry.

Sponge with an ammonia solution – one tablespoon of household ammonia in one cup of warm water.  Blot the carpet dry.

Repeat step 2 above.

Rinse with clear, lukewarm water and blot dry.

Brush up pile and cover with clean, white cloth or tissues until dry.
