Scrape up any solids with a blunt knife or spoon and blot up liquids with clean, white cloth or tissues.

Soot – vacuum thoroughly before tackling the stain.
Nail Varnish – dab with nail varnish remover before proceeding

Sponge with a proprietary household dry cleaning fluid in accordance with the manufacturer’s instruction.  Blot the carpet dry.

Sponge with a detergent solution – either with a teaspoon of washing power dissolved in ½ pint lukewarm water or a solution of carpet shampoo diluted as per the manufacturer’s instructions.  Blot the carpet dry.

Brush up pile and cover with clean, white cloth or tissues until dry.
