Scrape up any solids with a blunt knife or spoon and blot up liquids with clean, white cloth or tissues.

Sponge with a detergent solution – either with a teaspoon of washing powder dissolved in ½ pint lukewarm water or a solution of carpet shampoo diluted as per the manufacturer’s instructions.  Blot the carpet dry.

Rinse with clear, lukewarm water and blot dry.

Brush up pile and cover with clean, white cloth or tissues until dry.
